It was only in this year’s MWC that Sony had promised a new flagship for this year, and it has fulfilled it with the release of the new smartphone in the Xperia Z flagship series- the Sony Xperia Z3. Sony has also announced its compact version along with it- the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact in its IFA event yesterday. Both the devices have almost same specs, except the compact version being slight smaller in size.
While discussing about the specs, the Xperia Z3 features a 5.2-inch Super AMOLED capacitive display of 1080 x 1920 pixels with a Shatterproof Glass protection, which has a pixel density of 424 ppi. The Xperia Z3 Compact is however, slightly small with a 4.6 inches display of 720 x 1280 pixels. The Xperia Z3 sports a sleek profile with dimensions 146 x 72 x 7.3 mm (the Z3 Compact is 127.3 x 64.9 x 8.6 mm, which is due to the smaller display size) and weighs 152 grams (Note Edge is 129 Grams), which is quite heavy but still good for the size. While the Z3 will have 16 or 32 GB of internal memory, with an option of expandable storage upto 128 GB via microSD card, the Compact will have only 16 GB internal memory expandable upto 64 GB. The Z3 will have a 3 GB RAM (2 GB for Z3 Compact, and for the processing power, there will be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset, complied with a Quad-core 2.5 GHz Krait 400 (Snapdragon) or CPU, depending upon the markets. They will feature an Adreno 330 GPU for gaming and graphics. For the photography and videography options, these smartphones will have a 20.7 MP primary camera with LED Flash, Dual Shot, geo-tagging and many other features, which can capture videos upto 2,160 pixels @ 30 fps, and a 2.2 MP secondary camera for video calls and selfies. The juice will be provided by a 3,100 mAh battery in Note 4, and a Li-ion 2,600 mAh battery in Note Edge. For the connectivity options, there will be LTE support, microUSB v2.0, Bluetooth 4.1, WiFi and NFC. Both the phones will run on Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system. While the Xperia Z3will be available in Black, White, Copper, Silver Green color options, the Z3 Compact will be available in Orange color in addition to the former.
While these are obviously great fighters for Sony which are going to be a great hit, these have to compete with the parallelly announced Samsung Galaxy Note 4, and other similar devices.
