Sony had always been fast to provide the major Android version updates to its Xperia flagships, though this time the company has been a bit slower for its Xperia Z2 and Z3 devices. However, there is still a good news for the users of these handsets- they are getting the Android 5.0 Lollipop update in early 2015, which probably happens to be in January.
In a tweet reply to a question about the question for the Xperia Z3 update, Sony Xperia has said that the core Z2 and Z3 devices are getting the update in the early days of the following year. This includes the Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3v, Xperia Z3 Compact, and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact as well. The Sony Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z Z1, Xperia Z1S, and Xperia Z1 Compact have all already been confirmed to be receiving the Lollipop update by Sony, but it is still not fixed when they will get it.
The devices coming under the Xperia Z2 and Z3 line are however, not the first devices by Sony to get the Lollipop update. The Sony Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition has already started getting the updates, which is obviously the benefit of having a GPE device. So, if you are one of the lucky users to own the Sony Xperia Z2 or Z3 devices, it is the time for you to rejoice, and desperately wait for the Android 5.0 Lollipop update now. We will update if any further information is available.
