Recently a number of users reported that significant battery drain issue on Surface Pro 3 devices with a Simplo battery. Microsoft acknowledged the concern, but didn’t share any concrete statement whether the problem was due to the defective battery or software.
Now the company has issued a statement saying that the problem that causes Surface Pro 3 device to drain battery so quickly is a software-related issue.
According to an update posted at the official Microsoft forums, the company has isolated the problem to a small number of customers. Microsoft also confirms that there is not a problem with the Simplo batteries themselves, and it’s actively working to release an update to fix the problem.
Microsoft will be also publishing more information on how to fix the Surface Pro 3 battery drain issue in the forums as soon as it becomes available.
Update, August 20, 2016: On an statement at the Microsoft forums, a support engineer at Microsoft said that a software fix is coming soon to Surface Pro 3 owner to address the battery issue.
Update, August 30, 2016: Microsoft is now rolling out a new firmware update to address the battery drain issue on Surface Pro 3 devices.
“We can now confirm that this Surface Pro 3 battery capacity question is not a hardware issue, but one that can be addressed with a software update. Our team has been working on, and is now testing, an update that will address this. We’ll publish the update as soon as it has passed our quality assurance process. For now, you should not consider replacing your device as an update is pending. — Greg at Microsoft said.”
