The thing of making those hard drive bits smaller don’t since to stop. If your eyes popped out when you heard you can already buy a 6TB hard drive, well now that storage is old news as Seagate is starting to ship a stunning 8TB 3.5-inch hard drive for desktops adding 2 additional Terabytes to the previous version in the same physical space.
The details on tech specs are low, but we know the HDD features enterprise-class reliability, multi-drive RV tolerance to increase performance, and the new drive also incorporates SATA 6Gb/s interface for easy implementation.
But here is the thing, this new storage, isn’t quite ready for the customer base audience. Currently Seagate is shipping its newest 8TB hard drive only to enterprises, and you know that enterprise rated storage doesn’t come cheap. As such you should be putting a few extra hours at work to save some money when it becomes available.
For those storage fanatics I can only imagine how awesome it will be having at least five of these new drives in RAID 5 for data redundancy or RAID 0 for speed and capacity. But I guess we’ll have to wait a bit longer to see 40TB of storage in the home.
