People adjust their sleep timer as per their preference. Some want their screen to lock automatically after a short period of time, and some want the screen to be awake for as long as possible. This is why smartphones come with the functionality that lets users adjust the screen sleep time. If you are reading a pdf on your smartphone, you may want to increase the sleep time, or if you are more concerned about your battery life, decrease the time. Whatever your reason and preference are, your Android device will let you adjust accordingly. However, there are reports by some Huawei users saying they are unable to adjust the screen sleep timeout and the option is grayed out. This problem is seen on Huawei devices running Android 9 Pie with EMUI 9 such as Huawei P30. This tutorial will address this problem. But first, we’ll show you how to change screen sleep timeout in Huawei devices. Then we’ll show you the fix if the screen timeout option is grayed out in Huawei.

Change Screen Sleep Timeout in Huawei Devices

The steps are simple and most probably you already know how to get to screen timeout option. If you don’t, follow the steps below;

Step 1: Slide the Notification Panel.

Step 2: Tap on the gear icon located at the top right corner.

Step 3: Select Display.

Step 4: There you will find an option called Sleep. Tap on it.

Step 5: You will be presented with several time intervals. Select the time that suits your need. And you’re are done.

Screen Timeout Option is Grayed Out in Huawei

But what if you cannot select the Sleep option? What if it is unclickable and grayed out? Some users seem to be facing this problem. A user on Android Central Forums stated “My Sleep Screen mode has gone grey and I’m now stuck with my screen closing every 30 seconds. I have tried the ‘always awake’ in developer options but that hasn’t helped. This has only happened within the last few days and I’ve no idea why. I’m not aware of having changed the setting.”

If this is your case too, do not worry. The fix is simple and you can do it in less than a minute. All you have to do is turn off the Power Saving mode. Follow the steps below;

Step 3: Find Battery and tap on it.

Step 4: Once inside, Find the option that says Power Saving mode. It should be at the very beginning.

Step 5: Turn the toggle off and you are good to go. Follow the steps to change screen timeout again and this time you will be able to change the settings and the option would no longer be grayed out.
