Samsung Galaxy devices now will allow users to input their COVID-19 vaccination records within Samsung Pay.
In a partnership with The Commons Project, users can verify their vaccination status through the CommonHealth app and download their immunization record, CNET reported. Then, you’ll have to upload your record to Samsung Pay.
The tech allows you to show your status wherever it’s required, and even share it through a QR code within the app.
“CommonHealth’s collaboration with Samsung marks another important milestone as the availability and acceptance of SMART Health Cards as the standard for digital vaccination records continues to expand,” said JP Pollak, co-founder and chief architect of The Commons Project, in a press release. “As a leading mobile device manufacturer and digital wallet, Samsung offers a secure and easily accessible place for consumers to store this vital health information.”
Only Samsung Galaxy phones with Samsung Pay capabilities have this new feature, including the Galaxy S devices, Galaxy Note lineup, Galaxy A series, and more. Since some Samsung smartwatches support Samsung Pay, you’ll be able to use this digital verification method, as well.
Android users who don’t have a Samsung Galaxy phone can still upload their COVID vaccination card or test information using Google Pay.
Samsung Pay’s digital wallet features go beyond just storing your vaccination card—you also can store your credit or debit card and gift or memberships cards within the app, so that you don’t have to carry a physical wallet with you.
Apple has a similar digital wallet feature in its Wallet app, but takes it one step further by allowing you to upload your driver’s license or state ID (in participating states). In addition, some universities and colleges in the US and Canada now allow students to upload their student ID using the Wallet app.
