One of the easiest ways to rotate a picture on a PowerPoint slide is to free rotate the picture. When you free rotate a picture, the angle changes depending on how much you rotate the picture. If the free rotate doesn’t work for you, rotate the picture by 90 degrees or set a rotation angle.
Free Rotate a Picture
- Select the picture you want to rotate. A rotation handle appears at the top of the image.
- Hover over the rotation handle. The cursor changes to a circular tool.
- Drag the rotation handle to the left or to the right to rotate the picture.
Free Rotate Picture With Precision
- To rotate by precise 15-degree increments, press and hold the Shift key while you drag the rotation handle.
- Rotate the image until you reach the desired angle of rotation.

You may have a specific angle in mind to apply to a picture on a PowerPoint slide. Follow these steps for an alternative option.
Instructions in this article apply to PowerPoint 2019, 2016, 2013, 2010; and PowerPoint for Microsoft 365.
Select the picture you want to rotate. A rotation handle appears at the top of the image.

- In the Rotation text box, use the Up and Down arrows to select the correct angle of rotation, or enter the angle in the text box.
- As you change the angle, the image rotates on the slide.
Rotate Picture by Ninety Degrees
- Select the picture.
- Go to Picture Tools Format.
- In the Arrange group, select Rotate Options.
- Select either Rotate Right 90 degrees or Rotate Left 90 degrees.

To rotate the picture to the left, type a minus sign in front of the angle. For example, to rotate the picture 12-degrees to the left, type -12 in the text box.
Select the picture.
In the Arrange group, select Rotate Options.
Select either Rotate Right 90 degrees or Rotate Left 90 degrees.
