Smart home company Ring announced the next generation of its security product, the Alarm Pro, and the Ring Protect Pro monitoring service.
The Alarm Pro serves as a home base for a Ring Alarm security system, as it connects all the different sensors and cameras in one central location. The device also supports the new Ring Protect Pro subscription service, enabling ad blocking, content filtering, and other security features.
Its new processor, the Ring Edge, can store and process videos shot by Ring cameras locally. Users can use this feature by inserting the included 64GB microSD card into the Alarm Pro and selecting which camera to connect.
According to Ring, a 64GB microSD card can store about 47 hours of video.
The Alarm Pro has a built-in eero 6 Wi-Fi router that provides a fast and reliable connection to all of the devices. According to The Verge, the eero 6 router is capable of 900Mbps over an area of 1,500 square feet. Users can manage the eero router with the service’s official app.
Ring also introduced its Virtual Security Guard service. Customers can pay Rapid Response, a professional security company, to visually monitor their Ring cameras. Early adopters get the service free for a limited time before being charged $99 per month afterward.
The Ring Alarm Pro is currently available for pre-order, with bundles starting at $249.99. The bundles come with several contact sensors, a range extender, and a motion detector.
