Retro Games Ltd. has announced its newest mini retro console, THEA500. Based on the Amiga 500 home computer, it comes with 25 built-in games.
After its release of THEC64, it’s only natural that Retro Games would want to try its hand at another bite-sized retro console, hence THEA500. According to the official website, the mini console is designed for “…perfect emulation of not only the original Amiga 500, but also the Advanced Graphics Architecture (AGA) of the Amiga 1200.”
THEA500 comes loaded with 25 classic games like Another World (Out of This World), Simon the Sorcerer, and Worms. Perhaps more enticing, it also will let you load your own games onto it using a USB flash drive with WHDLoad support. Regardless of whether you play the packed-in games or your own, everything will display at 720p HD, at 50 Hz in Europe or 60 Hz in the US. You’ll also be able to save and resume your progress at any time.
Hardware-wise, THEA500 also includes a USB mouse that replicates the original two-button mouse, as well as a new eight-button precision USB gamepad. A USB-C power cable also comes in the box, as well as an HDMI cable to connect to your TV.
“In this initial mini version of THEA500®, we have created what we believe gaming fans will love, and will see as the evolution of mini games consoles,” said Paul Andrews, managing director at Retro Games, in the official announcement.
THEA500 Mini will release in early 2022, with a suggested retail price of $139.99 (£119.99, €129.99, $199.99 AUD).
