Power Inbox is a feature-rich extension for both FireFox and Google Chrome that allows for multiple interactive functions from within the email account. However, its best and useful feature is being able to reply, like or comment on any email notifications from sites like Facebook and Twitter. Here’s how it works:
Download the Power Inbox for your FireFox or Chrome browser. You’ll need to restart before the extension works. Once restarted, you’ll be asked for the email address that is connected to your Facebook or Twitter account.
Click on the Send button after typing in your email address. The next screen should look something like this:
As the prompt says, go ahead and log in to your email account. If you have any new or existing email notifications from Facebook and Twitter, you should have a PowerInbox control bar on top of the email body as seen below.
Before you are able to reply to Facebook messages and comments, you’ll need to log in to your Facebook account from within the PowerInbox email extension. A pop up page should show a similar window below:
Click on the Allow button and wait for the app to bring you back to your inbox. You should have a bar on the bottom of the post with an option to reply to the comment or message just like the actual Facebook interface. Simply click on the text bar and type away! Not only can you comment on posts, you can also Like or add friends right from your inbox.
Remember that only Facebook and Twitter accounts registered with the email address you specified are given this feature. If you have multiple accounts, be sure to use the correct email address. Each time you access a different email account for the first time, the extension prompts you authorize it account with Facebook, Twitter and other apps that PowerInbox supports.
In Twitter, you can tweet, follow and view your follower’s timeline within the email body as shown below:
In Gmail, you can customize which apps appear on your sidebar by clicking on the Power Inbox tab on the gray menu bar on top of the page. Click on Sidebar and make sure it has a check mark. The sidebar should appear on the right side of the email page. Click on the adds to add or remove them. Apps you have added will have the icon on top of the sidebar. Click on these to view your feed or timeline. If you’re accessing it for the first time, it will prompt you to sign in first.
As you can see from the screen cap above, PowerInbox doesn’t only support Facebook and Twitter. Other supported apps include LinkedIn, Instagram and Flickr. To get a complete list of supported apps, you can visit their website. It works on Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo! Mail and Hotmail on both Chrome and FireFox versions.
For your busy lifestyle, PowerInbox provides superb productivity right from your inbox. It’s easy and fast to install and even easier to use. Now you don’t have to put off interacting with your social network!
