Although, almost every company borrow ideas from the competition from time to time, we don’t see often companies trying to copy a Microsoft product in the way this group of former Google employees did by replicating almost everything about Surface.
At CES 2015, the startup company, Jide showed off the “Ultra Tablet”, a Surface like device loaded with “Remix OS”, featuring a kickstand, a detachable keyboard, and a custom version of Android operating system that shares various similarities with Windows 8.1 and the upcoming Windows 10.
The device has an 11.6-inch 1,920 x 1,080 pixels IPS display, close to the Surface Pro 3 12.5-inch display, with an aluminum kickstand that supports 40 and 80 degrees angles, which is similar to the Surface Pro 2 kickstand. It also runs on Nvidia Tegra 4 processor clocked at 1.8Ghz, 2GB of RAM, and 64GB of internal storage. There is one micro USB 2.0 port, which you’ll need an adapter to connect any standard size USB device, and a magnetic connector for charging.
The Ultra Tablet keyboard cover attaches identically and looks very similar to the Surface Type Cover, even the material is almost the same.
As for software, it is running “Remix OS”, which is a customized version of Android that looks and feels like Windows with a modern flat UI, taskbar and apps that look like Windows Store apps. If you’re a newbie to computers, it will be hard to tell the difference between a Surface and a Remix Ultra Tablet.
The company, Jide, has even created a promotional video to showcase the tablet that uses all the same marketing tactics Microsoft uses to promote the Surface Pro 3.
Therefore, if you’re hoping to a Surface Pro 3 like device, but Windows 8.1 isn’t your operating system, perhaps you can spend $449 to get a Remix Ultra Tablet. Finally, the company states “not for immediate release”.
