Yeah, that’s right! Reading Google Books just got better with GooReader 2, a Windows program that allows users to read Google Books with an interface that is much better than reading books in a web browser. It is easy to install and use, just launch the program and a Google Books search box is waiting for you to input the name or keyword of a book that it’ll be displayed in a virtual bookshelf. Additionally you have the ability to read ebooks online or offline, you can create bookmarks, build your personal virtual library, 3D effects like when you jump from Search to Library or flip pages.

Installing GooReader 2 is pretty simple, just note that GooReader works on Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7. And you must have installed .Net Framework 3.5 SP1.

  • First visit and download GooReader 2.
  • Unzip the program files and double-click Setup.exe.
  • Click Next, agree the license and click Next again.
  • Choose the folder location to install the program (the default settings is just fine), select whether to install the program for every user in the computer or just for you and click Next.
  • Click Next, wait for the installation to finish and click Close.

Now, launch GooReader 2 and to search for ebooks, click Search from the menu, then type a keyword in the search box and hit enter.

When you are done finding and adding ebooks, and you want to view all your ebook collection, click Library from the menu.

Adding your own books is pretty easy too. Click the Add book button from the toolbar, browse the file and click Open, that is it!

Remember that you can also save your books in PDF file format, but you will have to pay for the full version.

GooReader 2 – Reading a book.

To conclude, I would like to say that I’m not quite satisfied with how a new window will open up to display the ebook, instead of showing it inside the program like nook from Barnes & Noble and Blio eReader, with GooReader 2 you are able to save and return to the page where you left off, but if you try to bookmark a particular page this is not supported, besides, the book menu can be a little confusing at first for some people. But over all GooReader 2 looks great, performance well, you can read ebooks in full color, you have access to thousands of free books from Google Books, and you can continue reading a book offline. Also, I think that is important to mention that you can also add your own PDF ebooks, but you cannot save Google Books to PDF with the free version.
