Great news for Gmail users as Google has just made the latest version of its document processing app “Quickoffice” free for everyone with a Google account. Quickoffice app reads, edits and saves Microsoft document, PowerPoint and Excel files. The app is also synced with Google Drive so that your work can be accessed on any device. Along with the free Quickoffice app users who sign up to Gmail and install Quickoffice before September 26th will get 10 GB of free Google Drive storage for the next two years. Thus, we can expect the number of new Gmail users to escalate in the coming days. Now that Quickoffice is free, other similar document reader apps such as Officesuite Pro and Document To Go Pro will have to come up with something new to get premium users.
Google acquired Quickoffice on June 2012 and since then it has made a lot of improvements to the app which includes a faster and smoother user interface and extra features such as Zip folders and charts in PowerPoint and Excel. Previously Quickoffice was free only for Google apps for business users and it was priced $14.99 for Pro and $19.99 for Pro HD version at the Google Play store for the rest of users. The Google apps for business users can also update their current version of Quickoffice to get all the latest features.
The Quickoffice app is now free on Google Play and iTunes.
