As Windows 10 gets closer to RTM, new leaked information from upcoming build shows that Microsoft is finally renaming “Project Spartan” to “Microsoft Edge”. According to a new documentation revealed by the Russian leaker WZor, beginning Windows 10 build 10135, users will finally see the Microsoft Edge brand in the new web browser.
The documentation reads:
“Project Spartan is now Microsoft Edge: The package family name, app friendly, app friendly name, app user model ID, and file name of the current Project Spartan app has been changed to reflect the app’s new name. Specially, the following names has been change:
- The app friendly name has been changes from Project Spartan to Microsoft Edge
- The package family has been change from Microsoft.Windows.Spartan_cw5n1h2txyewy to Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe
- The app user model ID has been change to Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe!MicrosoftEdge
- The file name Spartan.exe has been change to MicrosoftEdge.exe
- The file name Spartan_edge.exe has been change to MicrosoftEdgeCP.exe”
Keep in mind that while this information seems accurate, WZor also published a number of screenshots of build 10135 and the Windows 10 web browser still carries the “Project Spartan” name with version bumped to 16.10135, which suggests that the build isn’t in its final form.
Among other things, Windows 10 build 10135 includes updates for various built-in apps, including Calculator, Get Skype, Music, Photo, and Snipping tool.
Update: Microsoft confirms that Microsoft Edge branding appears on internal builds, which means that we will see it soon.
