Epic Games took the video game industry by surprise with the reveal of Unreal Engine 5. What was even more surprising is that the company demonstrated this technology with the help of a PlayStation 5. You may be wondering why Epic Games decided to present the Unreal Engine 5 on the Sony console, well, beyond sharing the “5”, according to the head of the company, this is because the system’s SSD system was the ideal to show that kind of demo, apart from that it is thanks to the good relationship with Sony that they have worked more closely on PlayStation 5.

Following the unveiling of the new graphics engine and lighting technology it will include, Tim Sweeney, in an interview with VentureBeat, spoke about the capabilities of the PlayStation 5 and praised what Sony accomplished with its console. Sweeney mentioned that Sony not only took a great GPU and the “latest PC hardware” and put it together on PlayStation 5, but it did a great job designing it.

“Sony has done an awesome job of architecting a great system here. It’s not just a great GPU, and they didn’t just take the latest PC hardware and upgrade to it, following the path of least resistance. The storage architecture in PlayStation 5 is far ahead of anything that you can buy in any PC for any amount of money right now. It’s great to see that sort of innovation. It’s going to help drive future PCs. They’ll see this thing ship and realize, ‘Wow, with two SSDs, we’ll have to catch up,” Sweeney said.

Tim Sweeney reports that he has a close relationship with Sony, which has made it possible for them to work equally closely in the development of system storage. Apparently this relationship with the Japanese company has meant that several games published by Sony have been released on PC thanks to the Epic Games Store, such as Beyond: Two Souls, Detroit: Become Human and Predator: Hunting Grounds.
