Overwatch 2 is finally out with a wide range of new features and characters. That being said, the sequel also features several recurring characters including D.Va. She is a Tank class type character similar to the predecessor game with a wide range of abilities. As you can have only one Tank character in a 5v5 match, using her can be a bit of a hassle. So, check out our guide to find out the best strategies, and tips to play as D.Va in Overwatch 2.
How to Play D.Va in Overwatch 2 (Strategies & Tips)
Before we dive into her playstyle, you need to unlock D.Va. You can unlock her by completing the tutorial and two Unranked matches.
Being a lone representative of the Tank class type in a match, D.Va’s health and mech health have been upgraded slightly.
Her normal health has increased to 450 while her mech health has increased to 650. So, D.Va has high enough health to be in the frontline position. But she also perfectly fits in long-range combat against her enemies.
She can reduce all the Knockback attacks and fly around to help her team with her passive ability.
You can use the Booster ability to displace your enemies from the arena.
With this ability, D.Va can fly in whatever direction she is moving forward. If you bump into enemies, they will be inflicted with short damage and knockback.
You can also use the Micro Missiles ability with her primary weapon Fusion Cannons to cause more damage.
While the Micro Milsilles deal significant damage in close-range combat, we suggest maintaining a distance. That’s because it can be risky while fighting offensive characters like Reinhardt.
For defense, you can use D.Va’s Defense matrix which creates a matrix to block incoming projectiles.
This visible matrix blocks all the projectiles that last for three seconds when activated. Defense Matrix can be quite efficient ability to block long-ranged attacks and projectiles.
But this ability cannot block offensive melee attacks from characters like Brigette, Reinhardt, or Junker Queen.
When D.Va is inside her mech suit, she can use the Fusion Cannons as her primary weapon. On the other hand, she can use the Light weapon outside the mech suit.
The best part about this weapon is that you don’t have to reload it. But the twist here is that you can get a slow-movement penalty for spamming the attacks.
Once she is ejected out of the suit, she can use the Light weapon to gain charge for her ultimate ability.
Speaking of her ultimate ability, Self Destruct works exactly as the name suggests.
With this ability, you can self-destruct your mech suit and cause an AoE attack to damage your enemies. That being said, it can cause 2,000 damage and a guaranteed kill if timed right.
You can also gain the charge to use the Ultimate ability by using the Light weapon outside the suit.
To regain your Ultimate charge, you might need to defeat a distant opponent like Roadhog. As you activate the ability, it will summon a mech suit to slam and explode on the ground.
