Since Microsoft completed merging the OneNote app with the OneNote for Windows 10 app, the company has been proactively working to bring even more features from the old to the new application for Windows 11, including a vertical layout to navigate tabs and pages like in the version of Windows 10.
According to the announcement, the company says that the top request from educators was a navigation pane “with pages, sections, and notebooks aligned on the left-hand side, and the horizontal tabs to disappear.”
As a result of this request, Microsoft is testing a new vertical layout navigation for the new OneNote app that will look the same “on multiple platforms like OneNote web, Mac and iPad.”
The new vertical layout appears to be an optional setting you will need to enable by selecting the “Vertical Tabs” option from the “Tabs Layout” menu from the “View” tab.
The vertical layout for OneNote for Windows 11 is expected to arrive in early 2023, and Microsoft is still not saying when the modern interface will come to the app.
