Nothing has been teasing the release of its ear (1) earbuds for months now, and we finally have our first look at the upcoming device, including a release date and price.
Today marks the official reveal of Nothing’s ear (1) earbuds, a new set of wireless earbuds that the company has been teasing. After months of sharing new concept images and small bits of information, the company has at last given us a look at the final product. The ear (1) will go on sale on August 17 for $99 USD, though The Verge reports the company has plans to sell a small run of the new devices on its website on July 31.
Nothing’s first earbuds offer a transparent design, meant to make them stand out more against the traditional designs seen in AirPods and other popular earbuds. The ear (1) also include support for active noise canceling (ANC) and offer 5.7 hours of battery life (34 hours with the case) without ANC turned on. With ANC turned on, the device will sport four hours of battery life in the earbuds and 24 with the case.
The ear (1) also will utilize a trio of microphones on each earbud, which should allow users to talk in loud environments without their voices being overwhelmed by outside noise. They also offer a transparency mode, which can be turned on to allow the user to hear what is going on around them.
Each earbud is equipped with 11.6mm drivers, which have been tuned by Teenage Engineering, a Swedish electronics house.
Finally, the earbuds will offer tap and gesture controls, which can be customized in a companion app that also gives users access to EQ and the built-in Find My Earbud feature.
IPX4 water resistance is another important spec, which should protect the ear (1) from sweat and small splashing.
