The PlayStation 5 on Wednesday will get its second major software update, adding new features.
According to the PlayStation Blog post, the update includes an SSD storage expansion, 3D audio support, and new customization options that improve the user experience.
Players can improve their storage capacity with an M.2 SSD, which can download, copy, and play PS4 and PS5 games. These particular drives are known for their high speed and small size, and can be installed on both the standard console and the Digital Edition console.
The post notes the M.2 SSD must meet certain requirements, such as having an effective heatsink.
The update also enables 3D audio on standard TV speakers to heighten the gaming experience. Players can check the room’s acoustics with the microphone on their DualSense controller to apply optimal settings. And those with a Pulse 3D Wireless Headset now have access to equalizer settings to customize their audio experience.
The new PS5 user experience makes it easier for owners to personalize and manage their consoles, too. For example, users can customize their Control Center panel by rearranging its options and choosing what to show or hide.
Game Base has a new feature that makes it easier to see how many of their friends are online and accept (or decline) multiple friend requests at once.
PlayStation Now subscribers can choose between two resolutions, 720p or 1080p, depending on the game, and a streaming connection test is included to help troubleshoot connection problems.
Even PS4 owners will get updated features, such as the ability to view PS5 trophies on the older consoles.
