There are many sites that let you test your internet connection, but while they are very simple and useful tools, the Microsoft Research decided to come out with its own Network Speed Test app for Windows 8 and Windows RT devices.
The app is dead simple, when you feel that your internet connection is slow or if you want to know that you are getting the speed you’re paying for every month, just launch the Network Speed Test app, and click Start. The process only takes several seconds, after the test is done, you’ll be able to see what’s your download and upload speeds, latency, and on the side of the speedometer, you’ll see some speed references.
Other features include information about your home network (e.g., SSID and BSSID — if you’re connected to a wireless network, of course). Plus the history section on the right side can help you to understand the network performance throughout different periods of time.
