The NETGEAR WGR614 router is available in 10 different versions, but all of them use password as the default password. As with most passwords, this one is case sensitive.

Every version of this router also uses the default username of admin. When asked for the WGR614 password, just enter that.

Although the username and password are the same for each version of this router, the first five versions (1–5) have a default IP address of 192.168.0.1; versions 6 and newer use 192.168.1.1.

If the Default Password Doesn’t Work: Reset the WGR614

If password doesn’t work when you log in, then it’s been changed at some point to something else. Changing the default password of any device, including the WGR614, is an important security practice. The downside is that it’s easy to forget.

Reset the NETGEAR WGR614 router to restore the username and password to the factory defaults:

  • Plug in the power cable and turn on the router.
  • Turn the device around to access to the back panel, where the cables are plugged in. Look for the Reset button.
  • If you don’t see this button, check the bottom. Different routers have it located in different places.
  • Firmly press the Reset button with something small and pointed, such as a paperclip or pencil, for 10 seconds.
  • Wait for the router to reset. This may take between 30 and 60 seconds.
  • Unplug the power cable. Then, reattach it after a few seconds to reboot the router.
  • Wait 30 to 60 seconds for it to boot up.
  • The router is now reset. Log in with the default username and password of admin and password. The IP address you use to access the login page will be different depending on the WGR614 version you have.
  • Resetting to factory defaults resets every customization you made. If you had custom DNS servers, a wireless network, or port forwards, re-enter that information, which might involve configuring the DNS settings again, setting up an SSID and wireless password, and forwarding the ports. Check “Configuration File Management” in the WGR614 router user manual (links below) for instructions on backing up settings.

When You Can’t Access the WGR614 Router

If the default IP address doesn’t give you access to the router, it most likely means that it was changed at some point. To find the correct address, you want to locate the default gateway IP using any device that’s connected to the router.

Plug in the power cable and turn on the router.

Turn the device around to access to the back panel, where the cables are plugged in. Look for the Reset button.

If you don’t see this button, check the bottom. Different routers have it located in different places.

Firmly press the Reset button with something small and pointed, such as a paperclip or pencil, for 10 seconds.

Wait for the router to reset. This may take between 30 and 60 seconds.

Unplug the power cable. Then, reattach it after a few seconds to reboot the router.

Wait 30 to 60 seconds for it to boot up.

The router is now reset. Log in with the default username and password of admin and password. The IP address you use to access the login page will be different depending on the WGR614 version you have.

Resetting to factory defaults resets every customization you made. If you had custom DNS servers, a wireless network, or port forwards, re-enter that information, which might involve configuring the DNS settings again, setting up an SSID and wireless password, and forwarding the ports. Every resource NETGEAR has on the WGR614 router is available on the WGR614 Support page.

When you reset the WGR614, the default password is reinstated, too, not just the password. If you followed the steps above to reset the router, access the router with the default IP address. You shouldn’t need to find the default gateway.

No matter which version you use, download the most recent firmware in the Downloads section.

If you need the support page for a different version of this router, pick the right version from the Select a different version dropdown menu on that page.
