Netgear has announced the first Wi-Fi 6E mesh networking system addition to its Orbi line of internet routers.
According to Netgear’s press release, the new product is called the Orbi Quad-band Mesh Wi-Fi 6E System, which the company claims is the first of its kind. The Quad-band Mesh can support up to four different Wi-Fi bands as a home’s internet center and delivers lightning-fast connection speeds.
There is a lot to glean from the device’s name. Wi-Fi 6E is the latest standard for Wi-Fi technology that supports the newly available 6Ghz band, and “Mesh” refers to the nodes that expand the network’s reach throughout a location.
Netgear refers to these nodes as “Satellites,” and they come two per purchase.
Quad-band indicates the system’s ability to support four different Wi-Fi bands, including 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz options for older devices that can’t support the new standard.
The 6Ghz band support doubles the bandwidth of the older 5Ghz network and overcomes issues concerning device interference and congestion.
The system also supports wired connections; a 5GBps Ethernet port is included for network storage, LAN gaming, media streaming, and more.
The Quad-Band Mesh System can support up to six different Wi-Fi streams over an area of 9,000 square feet, while providing a high-quality connection speed and performance.
These connections can be expanded by adding more satellites to the router. Up to 16 different Wi-Fi streams can be supported.
Netgear’s Quad-band system is available for pre-order now. The base model comes in white and black with a price tag of $1,499. Additional satellites can be purchased at $599 each.
