Stardew Valley is a roleplaying simulator game. Your character is the grandchild of a farmer whose farmland you are tasked with rejuvenating. Why are Mushrooms better than bats?
The most important reason for using mushrooms as compared to bats is the fact that time is of the essence. Mushrooms in the game are only available for a couple of seasons at most and are therefore unavailable when you really require them. Purple mushrooms are especially notorious to find and are only available otherwise in the mines after level 90. Mining takes quite a long time and is even riskier, unless you like the adrenaline rush, to each their own.
Other than that it’s not necessary that bats will always get fruits. And most of the time they just get random fruits. Okay yes, sometimes (read rarely) bats do bring rarer fruit seeds that are usually seasonal and require a lot of foraging but that’s about it. The mushrooms meanwhile grow every two days giving you 6 mushrooms.
Fruit trees can be planted and grown on your farm in a more organized manner. However, that is not the case with mushrooms. They just pop up naturally and their growth can’t be controlled in the game which results in you just wasting time chasing around for them. Having them in your cave is pretty handy. Plus these mushrooms that are growing in your cave aren’t limited to specific types of mushrooms and even offer you the chance to obtain some rare types of mushrooms which are no doubt a big help in completing quests and fulfilling recipes.
Mushrooms also allow you to make life elixirs. Mushrooms are an important part of this recipe which would be hard to complete if you were running around searching for small domes. Plus, who wouldn’t love to have nine lives like cats?
At the end of the day, the decision does rest with you. Mushrooms provide more benefits than bats making a better option but who can deny that those blind, winged creatures are cute and dorky.
