After a long wait (almost two months) since the official release of Lollipop version by Google, Moto G starts getting Lollipop update in India. Motorola India has finally released the official update for both generations of Moto G.
Your phone might have shown the notification by now, and if not, you can check it on Menu » Settings » About Phone » System updates. If your phone has got the update, there will be an option to download the file, which will be of about 377 MB. Download the update file, and proceed forward to update your Moto G 2013 or 2014 to Lollipop. If you don’t see any such options, yo need not to panic. The update is being released on stages, and hence not all the phones get it at once. You will be getting it very soon, so keep calm and just wait for the update.
The current version update is 5.0.2 Lollipop, that means Motorola skipped the 5.0 and 5.0.1 versions. This was only for the users’ good though, as the previous versions were reported to have a lot of bugs. Direct jump to 5.0.2 might be the major reason for the delay to provide the update, but it is not much late, since this minor bug-free version of Android Lollipop was released only a few weeks before.
Motorola had released the Lollipop’s soak test version about a week before, for only a few Moto G 2014 users who had registered for it. The soak test update of Moto G XT1068 was even captured and put in XDA’s forum, from where it could be downloaded and installed, without any root or bootloader unlock.
The 5.0.2 Lollipop update obviously has major improvements over the 4.4.4 KitKat, which includes brand new ART Runtime. As the Android in Moto G is nearly the stock one, it does not have any manufacturer UI over it, and runs fast and fluid on the device. Though we don’t have any information yet, the Lollipop update for Moto E is also expected to be released very soon, and we will update about it if we get any clue.
